Traditional furniture was held together by a selection of woodworking joints, with nails and screws used minimally.
These courses are designed to teach both traditional and modern techniques for producing joints, aimed at the novice and improver.
You can choose from the following courses :
- Introduction to woodworking joints. 1 day.
- Dovetailing. 2 days.
- Choose your joints! 1 or 2 days.
Introduction to woodworking joints :
During this one day course you will be introduced to the two staples within a furniture makers arsenal of joints. The mortice and tenon joint and the dovetail joint. This course will include:
- An overview of the wide variety of different Mortice and Tenon joints.
- An introduction to sawing and chiselling/paring techniques.
- Marking out techniques.
- Techniques for producing hand cut Mortice and Tenon joints.
- Techniques for producing machine cut Mortice and Tenon joints using power tools and machines.
- An overview of the variety of different dovetail joints.
- Techniques for producing hand cut dovetails.
By the end of this course you will have produced samples of at least two different joints to take home.
Dovetailing:
During this two day course you will get the chance to work on the trademark joints of a furniture maker, the dovetail joints. It will include:
- An overview of the variety of different dovetail joints, their uses and advantages within furniture design.
- Marking out techniques.
- Techniques for producing hand cut dovetail joints.
By the end of this course you will have produced samples of at least 4 different dovetail joints to take home.
Choose your joints!
During this course you can choose the joints you’d like to learn how to produce. These can be discussed at the end of a previously attended course or at the time of booking.
These courses cost £175 individual for a 1 day course, or £320 for 2 days. If two are attending, the cost will be £160 each for one day and £300 each for 2 days. Prices include all materials, plus tea and coffee is provided free of charge.
